Mellori Solutions and ASR Defence Pty Ltd are working together to push the boundaries of how capability is understood and assured across the electromagnetic spectrum. This collaboration brings together complementary strengths across Mellori’s focus on sensor assurance testing, and ASR’s depth in sensing, decision-making, and system design to address a common challenge: moving from understanding signals to understanding signal behaviours.

At the centre of this effort are ASR Defence’s founders Dr Len Sciacca FTSE, Dr Khusro Saleem, and Dr Estefania Yap whose combined experience spans decades across defence science, academia, and industry. Dr Sciacca contributes strategic and research leadership across complex defence ecosystems. Dr Saleem brings deep technical expertise in RF systems and signal processing, while Dr Yap’s work in optimisation and artificial intelligence, particularly in Threat Evaluation and Weapon/Effects Assignment adds a critical decision-making dimension to modern electromagnetic operations.

ASR Defence’s Vanguard suite reflects this integrated approach. Their systems combine networked radar and EW capabilities with advanced decision engines, enabling not just detection, but real-time interpretation and response. Complementing this is Vanguard Explorer, a rapid prototyping environment designed to build sovereign capability across the full pipeline from education through to operational deployment embedding RF and signal processing expertise early and at scale.

This aligns closely with Mellori’s work in next-generation EW sensor assurance. As electromagnetic systems become increasingly software-defined, adaptive, and AI-enabled, the nature of the testing problem is shifting. It is no longer sufficient to validate whether a system detects or emits a signal correctly. The real question is how sensors behave how they adapt, decide, and respond in complex, contested environments.

This is where the Mellori and ASR collaboration is focused:

Transitioning sensor assurance from a static, compliance-based model to a dynamic, behaviour-driven framework. It is about testing not just signals, but the intent and outcomes those signals present, and ultimately closing the gap between sensing and action.

Achieving this requires tight integration between sensing, processing, decision-making, and effects. It also requires new approaches to test & evaluation that can replicate the ambiguity, scale, and speed of the modern electromagnetic battlespace.

The collaboration reflects a broader shift in how capability is developed bringing together industry, research, and Defence to co-design solutions that are both technically rigorous and operationally relevant.
